History Of SIRS

Southern Indiana Resource Solutions, better known as SIRS is a dynamic organization supporting individuals with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives in their community of choice! The organization was founded in 1968 through the grassroots efforts of local parents of adults with disabilities who desired to keep their children in their homes and local communities rather than sending them to state-run institutions for the developmentally disabled. Prior to this movement, individuals with disabilities were not allowed a public education, were often institutionalized at a very early age, or were kept isolated in family homes with little to no social interaction.

Throughout its history, SIRS’ has remained committed to the full participation of individuals with disabilities in our local communities. SIRS operates under a philosophy of full inclusion and self-determination to all persons served.
