BLACK RIVER WELCOME CENTER RECEIVES HIGH MARKS FROM STATE

The Black River Welcome Center, located near Griffin, Indiana on I-64, was recently given high marks in a quarterly review by the Indiana Department of Transportation for meeting and exceeding all cleaning specifications. SIRS Industries signed a contract for the maintenance duties of the Black River site in July 2003. The staff at Black River has consistently received high marks following inspections by the Indiana Association of Rehabilitation Facilities, Inc. (INARF), with this quarter topping all previous inspection reports. The rest area receives an average 300 to 500 visitors a day; even more on holidays and during the summer. The rest area staff is responsible for the complete 24 hour maintenance of the 17 acre site, including janitorial services, mowing, and groundwork for six to eight acres.

Upon receiving the report, SIRS’ CEO Kelly Mitchell congratulated the rest area staff, “The rest area team is to be highly commended for their efforts in maintaining a safe, clean, and pleasant environment for Indiana travelers.” The Black River Welcome Center provides an opportunity to support the inclusion of persons with disabilities and increases the public’s awareness of the abilities of persons with disabilities. Sandy Horn of Poseyville is supervisor and other team members include Crystal Nall, Jeremy Hardy, Ernie Daughtery, Brian and Tina Paris, and Cliff White.
